The Modifier Flames Update in 99 Nights in the Forest changes how players customize their runs during the game. Flames are now more flexible and can be used while playing, instead of only choosing them before a run starts. This update also adds new flame types, changes how players get modifiers, and moves all upgrades to one new location.
What Is the Modifier Flames Update?
The Modifier Flames Update introduces a new system where players can activate special flame modifiers during their run instead of only in the lobby. These flames change how the world behaves, such as increasing events, loot, or resource spawns. Each flame type adds a different effect to the game, and players can combine them to create their own style of gameplay.
Previously, players had to choose modifiers only at the start. Now they can change and add flames while the game continues, giving more control over how the run feels.
How the Flame System Works
To use the new flame system, players must first survive the early days and collect basic materials. They then use the Crafting Bench to create a Supply Crate by using wood. After placing the Supply Crate in the game, they can open it to activate the flame options.
The Supply Crate should be built and used before Day 3 so players can start their flames early in the run. Once the flames are active, players can select and change them while their run continues. The effects of the flames stay active for the rest of that game unless the player switches to different flames. This gives more control over how the run feels and what kind of rewards appear.
How To Unlock Flame Modifiers
Players do not buy flame modifiers directly. Instead, they earn flame modifiers through Daily Quests.
- The second Daily Quest gives one random fire modifier.
- The third Daily Quest gives another random fire modifier.
These flame modifiers are kept permanently, so players build up a collection of flames over time. Later, they use the Supply Crate in‑run to activate the flames they have unlocked. Each flame is a kind of “campfire modifier” that adds ongoing effects instead of just triggering a single event.
All New Flame Types
This update adds several new flame types. Each flame changes the game in its own way, helping players focus on different parts of the game such as farming, events, or pet taming.
💘 Valentine’s Flame
The Valentine’s Flame triggers the Valentine’s event in the game. This event adds special romance‑style content, such as flowers, themed quests, and extra rewards. Players who activate this flame will see more Valentine‑related features and items during their run.
🦃 Thanksgiving Flame
The Thanksgiving Flame brings the Thanksgiving event into the game. This event focuses on food‑related chaos and holiday‑style content. Players can expect more turkeys, food drops, and themed rewards while using this flame.
💰 Coinsplosion Flame
The Coinsplosion Flame increases coin drops and coin‑related events. More coins appear from chests, mobs, and events, which helps players buy tools, pets, and upgrades faster. This is useful for runs that focus on earning money.
🎣 Fishing Flame
The Fishing Flame makes fishing easier and more rewarding. It increases the number of fishing spots and the number of fish that appear. Players can collect more fish to sell for coins or use as food and resources.
🐾 Taming Flame
The Taming Flame improves pet taming. It makes pets tame faster and level up more easily. Players who enjoy collecting and training pets can use this flame to strengthen their team of animals more quickly.
🟥 Red Chest Flame
The Red Chest Flame increases the number of Red Chests and Ruby chests that appear. These chests often contain rare items and powerful rewards. Using this flame helps players find better gear and special items during their run.
🍎 Apple Tree Flame
The Apple Tree Flame makes Apple Trees appear more often and adds extra apple‑related events. Apple Trees give food and resources, so this flame helps players with food farming and survival.
🧚 Fairy Flame
The Fairy Flame starts Fairy events in the game. These are magical events that can give special quests, unique items, and extra rewards. Players who enjoy exploring and discovering hidden content can use this flame to unlock more fairy‑style effects.
Combining Flame Types
Players can use more than one flame at the same time, which lets them create stronger combinations. Different choices of flames change how the world feels and what kind of rewards appear.
- Fishing + Coinsplosion Flame: This combination helps players earn more coins from fishing by increasing both fish spawns and coin drops.
- Taming + Fairy Flame: This mix makes pet taming and magical events more active, which can lead to extra rewards and special quests.
- Red Chest + Coinsplosion Flame: This combination increases both rare chests and coin drops, making it easier to collect strong gear and more money.
Players can choose their flame combinations based on what they want to focus on, such as farming coins, collecting pets, or finding rare items.
New NPC: The Tool Trader
A new NPC called The Tool Trader has been added to the game. Players can find this character at the Tool Trader’s workstation. This NPC is now the main place to get certain tools and upgrades.
What The Tool Trader Offers
The Tool Trader lets players trade coins for tools and upgraded items, including:
- Taming Flutes – used to tame and train pets.
- Fishing Rods – used to catch fish.
- Future skilling tools – more tools that will be added in later updates.
Instead of searching in different areas for tools, players now go to The Tool Trader to buy and upgrade their equipment. This helps keep tool management in one place.
Changes to Upgrade Benches
The update also changes how tool upgrades work.
- All tool upgrade benches have been moved to The Tool Trader’s workstation.
- The old standalone upgrade building has been removed from the world.
Now, players must use the Tool Trader area to upgrade their tools, such as axes, pickaxes, and other equipment. This makes the upgrade process simpler and groups all upgrading near one location.
How This Update Changes the Game
The Modifier Flames Update gives players more control over how their runs feel. Since flames can be changed during the game, players can react to what they need most, such as more coins, better loot, or stronger pets. The new flame types add more variety to each run, so no two games feel exactly the same.
The Tool Trader and the new upgrade system also make it easier to manage tools and progress through the game. Players can plan their runs around specific flames and purchases, which helps them focus on their preferred style of play.
