Nightmare Catcher is a Mythical material in Blox Fruits used to upgrade Pain fruit abilities through the Admin Panel. It drops from Reborn Skeletons (Lv. 1975) and Living Zombies (Lv. 2000) at Haunted Castle in the Third Sea. You need a total of 4 Nightmare Catchers to fully upgrade Pain.
What Is Nightmare Catcher?
Nightmare Catcher is a Mythical crafting material introduced in Update 27. Unlike shop items or dealer purchases, it can only be obtained as an enemy drop. Despite its Mythical classification, it is widely considered one of the easiest Mythical materials to farm in the game because it drops directly from common NPCs rather than requiring boss fights or special events.
Its only confirmed use is upgrading two of the four Pain fruit abilities: Torment Conductor and Spectral Assimilation. It is not used for race awakenings or any other fruit upgrades.
Where To Get Nightmare Catcher

Nightmare Catcher drops from two enemies at Haunted Castle in the Third Sea:
| Enemy | Level | Location |
|---|---|---|
| Reborn Skeleton | 1975 | Haunted Castle, Third Sea |
| Living Zombie | 2000 | Haunted Castle, Third Sea |
Haunted Castle is designed for players in the level range of 1975 to 2075. If you are below this range, you will struggle to defeat the mobs efficiently. You can reach Haunted Castle by traveling southward from Port Town in the Third Sea.
The island also contains two other enemy types, Demonic Soul (Lv. 2025) and Possessed Mummy (Lv. 2050), but these do not drop Nightmare Catcher. The Soul Reaper raid boss and Death King NPC are also located on the island.
Only Reborn Skeletons and Living Zombies can drop the item, so focus your farming on those two.
How To Farm Nightmare Catcher Efficiently
Here is a step-by-step approach to farming Nightmare Catcher:
- Make sure you are in the Third Sea and at or above level 1975.
- Travel to Haunted Castle (south of Port Town).
- Locate Reborn Skeletons and Living Zombies inside the island.
- Defeat them repeatedly until Nightmare Catcher drops.
Farming Tips
- Use an AoE fruit. Fruits with strong area-of-effect damage like Buddha let you clear groups of mobs quickly, which increases your drops per hour.
- Farm on a private server. Fewer players means less competition for mob spawns and faster respawn cycling.
- Bring a strong build. A high-damage setup lets you one-shot or two-shot enemies without needing to stop and heal, keeping your farming loop fast.
- Don’t search shops or other islands. Nightmare Catcher is exclusively an enemy drop from these two mobs at Haunted Castle. It cannot be purchased anywhere.
Community reports generally describe the drop as relatively frequent for a Mythical material. Most players report getting multiple Nightmare Catchers within a single dedicated farming session, so the grind is shorter than for many other Mythical items.
All Pain Fruit Upgrade Requirements
Pain fruit abilities are upgraded through the Admin Panel, which is accessed by interacting with the Mysterious Scientist NPC. You can find the Mysterious Scientist in two locations:
- Second Sea: Inside the laboratory in the Hot and Cold zone (enter the color code Red, Blue, Green, Blue to open the secret door).
- Third Sea: At the Castle on the Sea, to the left of the Set Home Point area.
Below is the full upgrade table for all four Pain abilities. The first two abilities do not require Nightmare Catcher, but they are included here so you can plan your full upgrade path.
| Ability | Mastery Required | Research Quest | Materials |
|---|---|---|---|
| Infernal Endurance | 200 | Walk on lava for 5 minutes | Fragments, Ectoplasm, Magma Ore |
| Agony Surge | 300 | Collect 5 Pain orbs at once using Self Repel | Fragments, Ectoplasm, Magma Ore |
| Torment Conductor | 400 | Defeat a Lightning user | 1 Nightmare Catcher, 6,000 Fragments, 5 Ectoplasm |
| Spectral Assimilation | 500 | Collect 201 Pain orbs | 3 Nightmare Catchers, 9,500 Fragments, 5 Ectoplasm |
Each upgrade also has a research quest that must be completed before you can spend the materials. Make sure you complete the quest requirement first, then bring the materials to the Mysterious Scientist.
How Many Nightmare Catchers You Need
You need a total of 4 Nightmare Catchers to complete the full Pain upgrade path:
- 1 for Torment Conductor
- 3 for Spectral Assimilation
Since the earlier abilities (Infernal Endurance and Agony Surge) use Magma Ore instead of Nightmare Catcher, you do not need this material until you reach 400 Mastery on Pain. However, farming them in advance saves time later.
Along with the 4 Nightmare Catchers, you will also need a combined total of 15,500 Fragments and 10 Ectoplasm for both upgrades.
